🎨 Art, Community & Giving Back

One of the most rewarding parts of running Lisa’s Local Art is seeing how creativity can bring people together - not just in workshops and homes, but within the wider community too.

Over the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in some very special charity events, and I wanted to share a little reflection on those experiences.

🖼 Supporting Help Bristol's Homeless Through Art

Back in September, I attended a fantastic art auction in support of Help Bristol's Homeless - an evening filled with creativity, generosity and community spirit.

The event was hosted by Geoff Twentyman and brought together a wide range of artists who had donated their work to raise money for an important cause. It was incredible to see how much support there was, with funds raised going towards future projects that make a real difference.

I was so pleased (and a little proud!) that my piece sold on the night - a huge thank you to the person who purchased it. It means so much knowing that something I’ve created can contribute in a positive way.

It was a perfect example of how art can connect people and support something bigger than ourselves.

👩‍🎨 Supporting Local Schools Through Creativity

Another event that was particularly close to home was hosting a fundraising workshop in support of Friends of Beacon Rise, the charity that supports Beacon Rise Primary School.

The evening combined creativity with community fundraising, with a percentage of every workshop booking donated directly to support their work. It was wonderful to see so many people come along, including several who were trying one of my workshops for the very first time.

One of my favourite things about running workshops is watching people discover that they can be creative, regardless of previous experience. The evening was filled with conversation, laughter and painting, all while helping to raise funds for an important local cause.

Events like this show how art can bring communities together, support local organisations and create opportunities for people to connect through creativity.

🎨 A Creative Evening with Paul's Place

More recently, I had the pleasure of running a workshop for the wonderful members at Paul's Place.

We spent the evening creating a beautiful seascape, experimenting with a range of tools including brushes, sponges, palette knives and even cotton buds - proving that creativity doesn’t have to follow strict rules.

It was such a relaxed and joyful session, full of laughter and creativity. Everyone brought their own style to the paintings, and the results were absolutely fantastic.

Moments like these are what make workshops so special - not just the finished artwork, but the shared experience of creating together.

And a little personal highlight… it was lovely to meet another Lisa too!

💛 Why This Matters

These experiences are a reminder that art is about so much more than what’s on the canvas.

It’s about:

  • Connection

  • Community

  • Confidence

  • Giving back

Whether it’s raising money for an important cause or creating a space for people to express themselves, art has a way of bringing people together in the most meaningful ways.

I feel incredibly grateful to be able to use my work to support others, and I’m always open to opportunities to collaborate with charities and community groups.
